HR Manager
I have worn a lot of professional hats over the years. In order of oldest to most recent, these range from file clerk, office manager, bookkeeper, computer field tech, programmer, and data analyst. What I think all these roles have in common is getting sh*t done. There is more to my commitment to work, however, than just efficient productivity.
Between programming and working for Ironclad, I volunteered for a parenting organization near and dear to my heart; planning meetings, coordinating speakers, and facilitating discussions. I also became familiar with the concept of a doula, which was somewhat new at the time our children were born; someone who provides support before, during, and after childbirth. This person literally assists with the life-altering transition that occurs as a child is born. There is now a wide variety of doulas associated with childbirth, from fertility, antepartum, postpartum, to bereavement and family system doulas. I’ve even since learned of death doulas, who help individuals and families with the transition from life to death.
In my most recent role at Ironclad, performing data migration work, I’ve come to identify myself as a data doula. I define that role as someone who, prior to a transition, strives to understand data in its existing form, identifies goals for the future, and then cleans and transforms data into its final iteration for the new platform. Similar to other types of doulas, I bring a certain dedicated level of care to those I serve, and I commit to
facilitating the most desired outcome possible. In doing so, I try to understand an organization’s hopes and fears so that we can work together as a team towards our end goal. Like other doulas working with families, my time working together with a team is routinely short-lived but can also be an intense time of close collaboration. I truly enjoy the folks I get to meet along the way, and I hope their time with me and Geoff is equally rewarding.
